So I woke up on Tuesday morning, put my glasses on, and noticed that I couldn't see correctly out of my left eye. My early-summer adventure )

Hopefully the rest of summer won't be as exciting! ;)

Ooh, The Dark Knight is on right now on HBO (we don't usually get HBO, but this weekend is one of Verizon FiOS' special "all-channel" weekends or something so we've got it - plus a dozen other channels - until Monday!). Last summer's TDK blitz was so much fun. It was such a big deal! If I'm being honest, the movie really isn't the greatest movie ever made - it was the characters that made it so awesome - but the hype that surrounded it made it into something ~epic~. The ONTD party posts with .gifs and macros were great, especially when they happened in the middle of the night and everyone was, like, giddy-tired but stayed awake to participate in the lulz.

I wonder if there will be a big, hyped-up, everyone-loves-it movie this summer? The buzz would have started already, I think, so there likely won't be anything this summer on the scale of TDK. But, there are a couple movies coming out over the summer that I'm looking forward to - like the long-awaited Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince! Public Enemies, starring the fab Johnny Depp, is another that looks cool. I know I'm forgetting one or two others, but all in all, it looks like a pretty good summer at the movies. :)

Course grades, British history, vacation, and good eatin' )

All righty! Time for another LJ post! Life is going along pretty nicely. My grandfather is doing well and things with him seem to be more stable now. :)

School is fine too. I'm taking a class about global warming and a British history class, and I'm really enjoying both of them. The global warming class (as I call it; it has a more official sounding name but it's slipped my mind at the moment!) is a cool class because it not only is relevant to current issues, but it also knocks out my last CORE requirement. Yay! :D I'm enjoying the history class too. I seem, though, to be able to relate pretty much each big block of time we're studying to a season of Blackadder - at least from the third series on. I don't know if this is a good thing or not! :D

I was searching Google Images for pics of Pop Levi (he's awesome, so check his tunes out) to make some icons with, and what should pop up in the results but something totally unrelated to him - a candid of Noel Fielding! He weasels his way into everything! ;) :D

I need to write more music reviews. It seems like as soon as school started, things kept coming up that kept me from getting into the mood to write about my fave tunes. Several cool albums and singles have come out recently that I must talk about so perhaps my poor music blog will get some new entries soon. :)

Hey! I haven't posted for awhile, but I'll get back to rambling soon enough. ;) I'm taking a long time getting back to comments and emails, and I just wanted to give anyone who was wondering a heads-up about what's going on with moi.

My grandfather - he's 88 - has been in and out of the hospital for the past two weeks (first due to a mini-stroke, and currently for pneumonia; this week he's being released back to the nursing-home-like part of the retirement community where he and my grandmother live). I've never seen him this ill, and it's been affecting me pretty hard. Between that and school stuff, I've not had much normal downtime to get back to emails and such. (I've somehow found time to make icons, which is weird - but I think it's mainly because they're a good distraction.)

So, if you've emailed me or something, I haven't forgotten you! There's just a lot of stuff going on right now. Hopefully things will settle down in a couple of weeks or so. Hope everyone is doing well. :)

What's your nickname, and how did you get it?

View other answers

"Nonnie"! When my lil' bro was even littler, he couldn't quite pronounce "Deanna" so he called me "Nonnie." It's funny, because my parents had always felt kinda bad that you can't really get a nickname out of "Deanna" so it was really sweet that when my brother came along, he figured one out! :)

So things have continued to go well - there have been some not-great moments in the last few months, but things seems to be sorted out and I'm feeling good. :) I'm feeling extra chuffed right now because I just finished updating my Dana International site with a spiffy, CSS-based layout! I'm rather happy with the look of it. I've also uploaded several new remixes of some of her songs (including a quite spiffy, if I may say so, megamix) that I made myself - rather happy with those too! Oh yeah - I did eventually work out a CSS-based layout for lunaestas.com - it's really really simple but I'm digging that look right now. I'm still kind of confused by some CSS-related things, but I'm a quick learner, so hopefully I won't be in the dark for too long. ;)

Got some music recommendations for anyone interested - Martha Wainwright is awesome, The Ting Tings are nifty, and Monica Naranjo's Tarantula is my favorite album of the year so far. Also, Madonna's Hard Candy (read my review here) continues to be a lot of fun. Her new video for "Give It 2 Me" leaked or premiered or something, so take a peek here if you'd like. (I wonder how many more times I can pimp out my music blog in this entry? ;) )

Hope everyone's enjoying summer so far! :D Cheery bye, Scarlett

Hey all! I hope everyone's doing well. :) Not much has been up with me since I last posted, which is always a good thing! Just the usual. :)

I'm going to be a bit moody now, but don't worry, it won't last long. Things pick back up after the cut. :)

Madonna is releasing an album in late April and I am far too excited about this. A radio rip of the first single, "4 Minutes," is circulating the internets and I do believe I will explode with happiness when a CD rip leaks. The horns! The beats! The Justin Timberlake! It's all too awesome. :) Madonna delivered with her last album, Confessions On A Dance Floor, and I expect nothing less from the Queen this time around!

In other music news, after loving but not being in love with Kylie's recent album, X, I have recently fallen in love with it. This makes me happy, because I was worried that I was never going to really love it. Like, I adored several tracks but as an album I wasn't so hot on it. Now it's part of my "trekking across campus" soundtrack. :) This doesn't sound very important, but as a Kylie fan, this is serious stuff!!

Edit: Oh snap! I've just passed the 20,000 mark on last.fm! I think the 20,000 track was "Wuthering Heights [Live TV Performance]" by Kate Bush. Cool beans. :)

How have people pronounced your name? How is it supposed to sound?

View other answers

Well my real first name is Deanna - Scarlett is just my online pseudonym that I've used forever; it would be too confusing to do the sensible thing and use my real name instead now! - and it has been pronounced a bunch of different ways through the years. "Deenuh", "DeAnna", and "Diana" are the main goofs. It's really pronounced "Dee-ahh-nuh". :)

Argh, I haven't updated in yonks. Since my last update, winter break ended (all good things come to an end, I suppose!), and the spring semester began (I'm taking Intro to Horticulture - a required course - and Intro to Women's Lit - a nifty course). Lots of little things happened along the way - I saw Cloverfield, which was awesome; Sarah Brightman's Symphony was released (I don't think it will ever be one of my faves of hers, but it's all right); I finally watched all of series 3 of The Mighty Boosh, which was also awesome and hilarious; and... uh... well, not much else. :)

I have a new favorite hobby - buying CDs for cheap. There's this fantastic little used CD shop in College Park that sells CDs (well, duh), records, DVDs and video games for ridiculously low prices. A few weeks ago I got five CDs for a grand total of $2.44, and last Friday I bought 3 albums for 48 cents. And it's good music, too! So if you're ever in the area, check out The CD Game Exchange. :)

Cheery bye, Dee-ahh-nuh ;)

Hey all! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and a great start to 2008! :)

Not much going on with me right now - I'm pretty much just goofing off. :) I've been enjoying my Christmas prezzies a lot - I got an all-region DVD player and The Mighty Boosh series 1 & 2 box set and a Peter Cook and Dudley Moore DVD from Australia, as well as some other lovely goodies (make-up, jewelry, books, money for iTunes...). As you can probably tell from that list, I'm more than a little pleased! :) Christmas dinner was excellent - there's nothing better than Christmas ham, stuffing, and all the other fixin's! New Year's Eve was all right - I had felt kinda woozy all day and had a headache (I'm OK, it was from random anxiety) but rang in 2008 sufficiently with the fam. ;)

And that's basically what's been going on with me! I've made some icons that I'll be posting over at the [info]iconpile, so pop on over if the mood strikes ya!

O hay guys!

So I saw Sweeney Todd with my mom on Friday, and it was awesome.

I got my grades for Theatre and Women's Studies... I don't really know how I managed it, but I got an A+ in both! This is wonderful for several reasons: first, it's just great in general to get good grades; second, it certainly doesn't hurt my GPA; and finally, it proves to me that I haven't lost any of my abilities since I've been out of action and shown me that I am still extremely capable of doing well. That last point is worth its weight in gold. :)

I've got all my Christmas gifts for the family all set and ready to be given! I downloaded a ton of music for them and feel quite pleased with myself for finding some stuff that I think they will really like. :) I'm quite excited for Christmas and am enjoying watching my fave Christmas movies/TV shows. It's not Christmas with out It's A Wonderful Life, White Christmas, A Christmas Story, and Christmas Vacation or the TV classics A Muppet Family Christmas, Pee-Wee's Christmas Special, and Blackadder's Christmas Carol. I really do think this is the most wonderful time of the year. :)

Hope everyone's having fun! :) Cheery bye, Scarlett

All righty! The semester is over! Exams are done, final projects are over with - yay! I'm really so pleased with how much progress I've made in the last few months both academically and OCD-wise. I'm not one to toot my own horn, but I think that deserves a little melody. :)

My Theatre exam was pretty straightforward and had the usual multiple choice, matching, and essay sections. The Women's Studies exam was a bit less... conventional. It was a "group exam," and we basically chose groups of five (we chose our groups before the exam day) and, using concepts we learned during the semester, collaborated on a response to several questions about a news article. It wasn't that difficult, it was just a strange way to format a final exam. :/ But, all in all, I think I did well on the Theatre exam and I think our group came up with a good essay for the Women's Studies final.

I'm looking forward to just relaxing and goofing off during winter break, seeing family for the holidays, and hopefully getting together with friends. I'm able to enjoy things fully again - for so long it was hard to be able to enjoy stuff without sort of looking over my shoulder for the next difficult time to come. With time I've realized that life doesn't have to be like that. :)

Things are just going really well right now, and it's a wonderful feeling. My dad, who has been struggling with depression for years, started on Abilify about two weeks ago (he's never been on it before; I've been on it since 2005 and have had a lot of success with it) and the difference is really rather miraculous. He feels the depression lifting, and my mom and I have really noticed that he's a lot more like his old self again. It's still early days yet, but things are looking better for him than they have in a long time and what's most important is that he feels good about it. :)

Take care guys! Cheery bye, Scarlett
