Picspam time! The current prompt at picspammy: "focus your spam on one scene or sequence." For me, this one was a no-brainer. I saw that prompt and my mind immediately went to this one bit in the 1975 Doctor Who story The Android Invasion. It marked the moment I fell in lurve with the mighty Tom Baker, and of course Doctor Who!

Strange as it might sound, this one scene - more of a moment, really - was one of those things that has stuck with me forever. I first saw it when I was 15 and now, at 22, I still go a bit gooey when I see it. But the great thing about this scene is that it transcends just being a hot Tom Baker moment. After I had gotten into the show and had a good sense of what it was all about, it struck me that this scene from The Android Invasion summed up, for me, the character of the Doctor. And I'm not even limiting it to the character of the Fourth Doctor. You could make a case that this scene could have happened in any of the Doctors' eras, though I'd also argue that only Tom Baker could have pulled it off so subtly and with such panache. ;)

The scene and the spam! )

26-year-old actor Matt Smith was anointed as the eleventh Doctor Who this week. If you were in charge of casting, who would you cast as your ideal Doctor and why?

If I were in charge of casting, I'd offer Tom Baker (speaking of unique!) a bazillion dollars and cabbages or whatever he wanted and get him to sign on as the Doctor again. Sure it would mess up continuity, but the writers already did that kind of damage with UNIT's timeline years ago, so whatev. :)

ETA: Forgot the "why" of the question, although the reason why Tom Baker should be cast again should be obvious to everyone - because he's awesome.

By the way, I think Matt Smith is an interesting bit of casting. He certainly looks the part - rather unique looking (like a foot if a foot had a face, as someone on ONTD noted) - but I'll have to wait to see him ~in action~~ before I make any further judgments! :)

I'll be honest - I haven't been following the details of New Who for awhile now. I keep up with the big stuff - Kylie, for example (and no, that isn't a joke - that's big stuff!) - but I just can't get into the series as it is now. I don't object to it or anything (although I'm not keen on the flowery lovey stuff with Rose, or the Doctor kissing everybody), I just haven't gotten into it. Nevertheless, I'm so glad it's back on TV and that more people have found and love the show.

I'm a weird fan now, I guess. I really only like the first four Doctors' eras, and even then I only tend to watch Third or Fourth stories, and even then it's not that often. (Though I did get "The Brain of Morbius" for Christmas!) I suppose I got the rabid fannishness out of my system when I first got into the series back in 2002 (!!!). I tend to be a little more sedate about my interests now, for some reason (age, I think).

That said, I am in the process of making more Doctor Who icons... Third and Fourth eras, natch. ;)

I'm still alive, and am actually doing pretty OK. Perhaps my newly upped dosage of one of my meds will start having an effect...?

One new development - I'm going to be going back to doing CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) as soon as possible. Turns out my new fantastic psych wants me to start it up again, but with someone new. So we're in the process of deciding upon a new CBT therapist. This is a good thing. I do need the therapy, because meds can only do so much...

Anywho, my family and I will be making our annual trek to Solomon's Island over the weekend (Friday and Saturday, then go home on Sunday afternoon). For as long as I can remember, we've visited Solomon's at some point during October. It's kind of a mini-vacation that doubles as an anniversary celebration for my parents, who were married on Oct 15 aeons ago. ;)

Solomon's is lovely, a very quiet little place with gorgeous views of the Chesapeake and lots of neat shops to visit, plus has a wonderful museum with all sorts of nautical paraphernalia. (My parents LOVE anything to do with the ocean, sailing, that sort of thing - my mom particularly adores lighthouses, so it's neat that SI has a beautiful lighthouse that you can take a tour of.)

So when I get back, I shall post piccies. :)

Speaking of piccies...

I yoinked this from ailcia, but I also saw a post from moribundlust with this meme. :)

o1 - List your top 10 celebrity crushes
o2 - Put all of them IN ORDER of your lust for them
o3 - Say which movie/show it was that hooked you
o4 - Supply photos for said stars
o5 - Tag five people

I won't tag anyone, but if you'd like, please do it! :)

Whew! If you got through that, congrats! ;)

Oh yeah! There was this meme about gay rights going around, where if you truly support gay rights you'll post it in your journal. I can't find it again, so just take my word for it, even without the highly official meme text, that I am a total supporter of gay rights. :)

And that's about it! :) Cheery bye, Scarlett

It's a sad day, because he's not here, but it's also a happy day because it's a chance to celebrate the wonderfulness that was Freddie Mercury. :) My own way of celebrating always involves graphics of some kind, so here's a selection of icons and wallpapers of the man himself. :)

On to other news... Contrary to my initial belief that the Doctor Who anonmeme (not technically a hatememe, as [info]martoufmarty pointed out!) was all bad, I found that I actually had quite a fun time following and contributing to it the other night. I made a new LJ friend (hi [info]dune_drd!), made martoufmarty sad :( , said hi to [info]the_10thdoctor, got to use the phrase 'Oh no you didn't!', inspired some discussion about why Three is the bestest, confirmed that Peter Cook is indeed a god, used an 'Internet: Serious Business' graphic (can't find the link)... good times, man, good times. :D There was, of course, wank, but that was only to be expected. I can see both sides of the argument - it's not unreasonable to have a community for a group of friends to chat in, and yet I can see how some people might think that it was only set up to mock. Me? I don't care. :) People got really worked up about it, though, which was amusing to watch. Sad, but amusing. :( ETA: Also, confessed a deep dark sekrit.

Well, that's about it for now. :) Cheery bye, Scarlett

Just a wee rant. I don't know why, I just feel irritated.

There's a Doctor Who hatememe?! I honestly didn't think that the fan community would need something like that. In general, Who fandom is pretty friendly. Why is it that there's parts of the fandom that are so cliquey now? If it weren't for the cliquey people, would there be a need for a hatememe? It's just very irritating, is all, because it's reminiscent of the "cool kids" mentality in high school. You know?

It's just disappointing that there's actually a hatememe for Doctor Who fandom. Why can't we all just get along? ;)

That's all. Told you it was a wee rant.

Hey all! I haven't been posting recently cos I've just been having a bunch of really bad days, but... well... yeah. Just having some rough times (yet again).

But! I managed to acquire a Vox account (the "new Myspace" or whatever), and it's pretty cool. When I get invites, I'll let you all know in case any of you want to try it out too. :) Here's mine: Voxstidious & Precise. I wrote an entry about my love for Tomb of the Cybermen here, so take a peek if you're interested! :) Voxstidious isn't going to take the place of Fastidious though. I love LJ too much!! :D

Edited to add - found a link to Queen's A Night At The Opera album, and decided I must tell you all to try it out! :D

Just for the record...
V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!
(from Mon 17 - Fri 21)

Watched a bit o' Horror of Fang Rock with my mom tonight, as is our fairly strange tradition every year we go to the beach. This has been going on since I first started watching, so it's a relatively new tradition, but it's still fun. It's probably just because it's set in a lighthouse. :) And it's got a big ol' booger!

I'm hoping that my OCD with take a little vacation too, but I'm just planning on hanging in there as best I can. :/ Still,  a day at the beach with OCD is better than a day at home with OCD! ;) :D

Take care everybody! I'll take pics of the ocean and other fun stuff to post when I get back. :)

Not much going on at the moment, just getting things ready for the beach. :)

I got mah hairs cut yesterday...

While perusing ohnotheydidnt comments in a post about Snakes on a Plane, I came across one that sums up my thoughts on SOAP. Because I'm sure you were wondering. :)
I get the feeling Snakes will end up being your regular, run-of-the-mill horror flick that just got over-hyped and advertised to death. I'll still see it and I'll say I love it because it's Snakes on a Plane, but I think I'm more attracted to the idea than the actual movie.
Doctor Who has totally turned into a porno. Yes.

[info]neohippie, I found a White Stripes EP on my net travels with live tracks that I thought may be of interest to you! :) [source]

So I had my appointment with my psych on Friday, and it went pretty well. We're going to up one of the meds I'm on and see how that does. We're still going to get a second opinion on the meds, but this is good in the meantime. The most important thing, though, is that she once again reassured me that it's all OCD. Now let's see if I can keep that in mind and get better! :)

In celebration of the fact that I'm not in fact going crazy and tjhat it's just teh OCDness, you know what I'm gonna do? PICSPAM! :D

Icons shall be coming up this weekend - thank you guys for your suggestions! Keep 'em coming! :D

Take care! Cheery bye, Scarlett
